It is safe to say that every girl wants shampoo commercial-worthy hair – glossy, thick and super lustrous goddess-like locks that sway perfectly at every waft of the wind. To have such dreamy hair, we can’t even wait to imagine how glamorous that must feel like.
With the humid weather on Malaysian grounds, our hair tends to soak up moisture and oils more quickly, leaving us with flat and lifeless hair. For girls who already have extra fine and thin hair, this would further dampen the prospect of getting the big, bouncy hair you have always wanted. But fret not girls, as we have some tips and tricks for you to get more volumized, stunning hair, no matter your hair type!
Blow Dry Your Hair
With either dry or wet hair, this works wonders and instantly lifts your hair, creating an illusion of a fuller and bouncier mane. Just start by parting small sections of hair starting at the top of your head. Then, lift one section of hair upwards and blow dry, leaving the heat at the roots for about 1 minute per section. Repeat on all sections of hair and use your hands to ruffle the roots slightly.
Volumizing Hair Products
Switch your old hair products for volumizing products. Volumizing shampoos and conditioners are a great way to increase hair volume from the inside out because of one staple ingredient they contain: keratin. Keratin is a protein vital for hair growth and helps to strengthen hair, making it appear fuller and thicker. Other than that, also look for volumizing mousse and serums to help plump up your hair. With that said, be careful when choosing volumizing products and ensure that they are mineral and paraffin oil-free as these ingredients will actually weigh your hair down, making it harder to lift.
Back-teasing The Roots
Ever wondered how models on the runway parade that alluring slight pouf on their heads? It’s easy! First, section off your hair across the crown of your head. Working from the top to the back of your head, lift a section of hair upwards, then take a fine-toothed comb and comb the hair in the opposite direction at about 4 inches from the roots a couple of times, creating a slight tease. The results will vary depending on how much you tease and how much volume you are trying to attain.
Add Texture
For more permanent results, try getting a body wave or a crimp at your salon. Many do not know the difference but a body wave deposits soft waves which gives your hair more fullness; as opposed to heavy dramatic curls that a perm would create. If a body wave does not float your boat, crimping is another way to go. Crimping involves clamping hair between a sawtooth iron to give it a light groove and texture. Stylists at salons usually only do this at the top section of hair and this is perfect for girls who have really fine, thin hair. These methods would save you tons of time and effort, if you’re looking to do less work with your hair.
Wash Hair Every Other Day
Washing your hair everyday can be damaging and really weighs down your hair as there might be product build-up from all the shampoo and conditioner you have been applying. To avoid this, try using a dry shampoo instead. Not only will it make your hair healthier by allowing the natural oils on your scalp to nourish your hair for longer, it helps to keep the unwanted sheen on your tresses at bay. The formulas of most dry shampoos also add texture and body to your hair.
Do the Flip
Finally, if you are on the go and have no time to lose, this is an ultra quick fix that most celebrities swear by. Flip your head down, letting all your hair fall and just ruffle up for an instant lift at the roots. You’ll be amazed at what this will do for your hair momentarily.
