Making a simple dinner-for-two doesn’t have to be expensive or a back-breaker, especially when you don’t have that much experience in the kitchen. We’ve looked out for some simple, delicious recipes that you can now cook for your man, and hopefully win his heart through his stomach!

Baked Potato Soup
In a sauce pan, sizzle up a few strips of beef bacon until they turn crisp, and set them aside. Re-using the oil, saute a small chopped onion until it softens, and some garlic too. Then, make roux by stirring in 3 tablespoons of flour, a teaspoon of salt, some basil and pepper, and mix it all properly, allowing it to cook for about five minutes.

Grab three cups of chicken broth, mix it in, and bring your soup to boil. Stir occasionally to make sure the consistency is thick and creamy. Add some chucks of potatoes, some light cream and a dash of Tobasco sauce. Make sure it simmers on low heat. When it’s done, pour them into bowls, and garnish with parmesan cheese and beef bacon. Grilled Sirloin Steak
If you both love your meat, treat him to a nicely cooked steak! Head to the butcher and buy two slices of well cut sirloin and season it with salt, pepper and any a small dash of five spice powder. On a lightly oiled frying pan, sear the steak for about 1 to 2 minutes on medium-to-high heat for medium-well. Remove from the pan, and put it on the plates. Serve with a combination asparagus, baby carrots and broccoli, all garnished in parsley and butter.

Chicken Parmigiana
You’ll need an oven for this, but you can also use a non-stick pan to prepare a Chicken Parmigiana. Just get two skinless and boneless chicken breast halves, and season with some salt and pepper. Then pour an egg into a small shallow bowl and beat it, and another bowl for some bread crumbs. Dip the chicken in the egg, then coat with bread crumbs, and place the chicken on a piece of baking paper and bake in the oven for 40 minutes on low heat.

Then, transfer the chicken onto a baking dish, and pour spaghetti sauce into the baking dish. Then sprinkle some mozzarella and parmesan cheese on top and return it in the oven until the cheese melts and spreads.

Tom Yam Fried Rice with Grilled Chicken
On a non-stick pan, sear two chicken fillets seasoned in salt, pepper and five spice powder until cooked. Then, on a hot wok, add four tablespoons of tom yam soup paste, and let it sizzle for a while and combine some long beans, onions, garlic, carrots and corn over 3 tablespoons of oil. Then, break two eggs and scramble it up with the rest ingredients. Once the egg is cooked, combine 3 or 4 large scoops of cooked Jasmine rice, and stir-fry. Add a few pinches of salt to taste. When your satisfied with the taste, place the a scoop or two of the rice on a dish, serve with the chicken on top and garnish with some coriander leaves.

Herbed Salmon in Foil
You can choose to prepare this on the grill or the oven, but remember to preheat before cooking. Start by seasoning fresh salmon fillets with olive oil, garlic salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Then, transfer them into two separate aluminum foils, and squeeze more lemon juice over, adding some jalapeno spices, chilies, herbs, onion and garlic. Arrange them on top of the fillet and carefully seal all edges of the foil to form enclosed packets.

Place packets on baking sheet and bake or grill for up to 20 minutes. The fish is cooked when it flakes easily with a fork. Serve the foiled packets on a dish with buttered rice or pasta shells.

Herbed Mango Grilled Cheese Sandwich

If you’re feeling adventurous, combine a comfort food staple with a fresh tropical zing! In a bowl, combine a tablespoon of cream cheese, 1/4 cup of shredded parmesan and mozarella, and another 1/4 cup of American cheddar. Mix it up and add a dash of parsley, thyme and a two tablespoons of finely chopped sweet mangoes. Spread it on white bread, top with another slice. Slice the bread in two triangles, and place it on a non-stick frying pan with hot butter. Grill until bread turns brown and cheese starts to melt.
