The Ministry of Education has officially ordered that the CCTVs in the SMK Seri Sentosa school toilets be removed after uproar over claims of invasion of privacy.
Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh commented:
“We have asked the school to remove the CCTVs in the toilets because it was inappropriate. We have directed the to remove the CCTVs immediately”.
The Bar Council said that parents can file police reports against any schools for outraging the modesty of their children by allowing video footage of them to be recorded.
SMK Seri Sentosa headmistress Hajah Rahmah Abd Haji claimed that the CCTVs were installed to deal with many cases of vandalism, students cutting class, gang fights, and cheating during exams.
