Smartphones are gifts to humanity made by incredible tech geniuses that aim to make our lives easier. However, like computers, smartphones run on power and there’s no point in using one when it’s out of juice. You’re never going to get a week’s use out of a smartphone unlike the good old Nokia 3310 like in the good old days, but you can make it last a whole day, or just slightly over one.
Here are a few simply ways to improve your smartphone’s battery life:
1. Dim the brightness of your screen
The colorful lights on your display screen can be one a tantalizing view, but it’ll drain your battery out of power in no time. To extend the life of the battery, turn down the screen’s brightness to a setting you can still see and leave it there.
2. Shorten screen-timeout time
Leaving your phone display lit for 40 seconds can be a lifesaver when you’re trying to find a seat in cinema, but every second your phone stays lit when you’re not using it, drains the life out of your battery. Shorten the screen-timeout to the shortest time available. A general minimum is 15 seconds, which is long enough if you think about it.
3. Turn-off Wi-Fi
Leaving your Wi-Fi radio on when it’s not in use can drain your battery out fast. If you’re already using 3G for internet access, turn Wi-Fi off. Alternatively, if you’re using Wi-Fi, switch off your internet data plan and stick to your Wi-Fi connection.
4. Turn-off Bluetooth
Like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth is also another battery drainer. Unless if you have your wireless headset on when you’re driving, or have it connected to a speaker, turn it off.
5. Switch off running apps in the background
One of the most important smartphone feature is multitasking, but running more than three apps at a time will increase the CPU workload and drain the battery.
6. Turn-off GPS and location devices
If you’ve ever been shocked by the drastic battery drain after turning on your GPS, that’s because your GPS will use up a lot of juice from your phone. Use it only when you need it. Also, whenever an app asks you for permission to use your location, feel free to say no.
7. Disable vibrate settings
The vibrate setting on your phone uses more power than playing a ringtone does. That’s because a vibration motor is implanted in the device to allow the phone to shake, and occasionally cause some discomfort if you’re wearing tight pants.
8. Enable “Power Saving” mode
If you use an Android, you can enable the Power Saving mode especially when you know you’re going to utilize your phone a lot that day. Power saving mode can be customized – adjust the light display, running of apps, etc.
