A local bookstore recently made its way on viral content site Buzzfeed for the wrong reason – having the “Most Sexist Ad of the Summer“.
The so-called sexist ad was created by the people behind McCann Erickson ad agency, and is supposed to promote the bookstore’s cookbook section.
The ad is basically a frame that features six photos of the same woman getting married, but embracing a different groom in each photo. The copy on the lower right of the image says: “It’s time you learn to cook. Choose from more than 5000 cooking titles”.
Though cheeky, this particular advertisement makes us ask a few questions:
1. Does being good in the kitchen mean you’ll have more success in the relationship department?
2. Why is there only one Indian guy, while the rest look Chinese? What are they insinuating?
3. Do you guys realize that the bride’s smile gets tighter halfway through? It’s like she’s becoming unhappier with each marriage.
4. Do men expect women to be great cooks?
So, sexist and a little racist? What do you girls have to say about this ad?
