After nearly 10 years of waiting, everyone’s favourite Furyan antihero returns to cinemas with a vengeance.
This time, Riddick is betrayed and left on a hostile, desolate planet and must fight for survival against vicious alien predators – leaving him meaner than ever. As it happens, bounty hunters throughout the galaxy still haven’t forgotten the price on his head and descend to claim their prize, setting the stage for Riddick to do what he does best: Absolute. Bloody. Carnage.
Hollywood tough-guy Vin Diesel returns to the role that launched his actionmovie career in the low budget cult-classic Pitch Black (2000), which was followed by The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) – this time also as producer. Also returning is series director David Twohy. Diesel treated this sequel as an independent film, obtaining the movie rights from Universal and even almost going as far as putting up his house as collateral when bills couldn’t be paid. Describing the return of the now iconic character as a ‘victory’, Diesel goes on to say the character ‘struck a chord’ with audiences, citing his 46 million fans on Facebook as evidence.
“He’s tangible for them. I think the idea of a character that has been misread, overlooked and given up on is very fascinating to people” he said in an interview with ABCnews.com.
The movie also features notable stars like Karl Urban and Jordi Molla as well as the acting debut of RnB superstar Keri Hilson, who said in an interview on Yahoo.com that the movie let her “show her athleticism” drawing from her past experience swimming and playing basketball.
Riddick hits Malaysian cinemas September 5th. We for one, have waited long enough.
