[UPDATE] 5-Year-Old Child Abuse Victim Dies in Hospital, Mom Charged with Murder

Housewife Choong Mee Chin, the mother of five-year-old daughter has been charged with murder at a magistrate’s court here.

Choong nodded her head after she understood the charge interpreted by the court in Cantonese. The mention was set on 25th October 2013 at Magistrate Nor Haslinda. The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death sentence.

Meanwhile,  a post-mortem revealed the cause of Ho Yan Hui’s death to be abscess in her brain and septicaemia. Her body was claimed by her father at 12.50pm yesterday to prepare for her funeral. (Source)

There are times when innocence ends up becoming a sin in the eyes of some people.
Ho Yan Hui, a five-year-old child abuse victim died at the paediatric intensive care unit in Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital. Ho suffered severe injuries and was believed to have been abused by her own mother Choong Mee Chin. Ho was apparently punished for misbehaving at their home in Taman Wang, Menglembu a few weeks ago.
Choong was accused of hitting her daughter on the head and all over her body with a cane in the living room of their home. She was believed to have been enraged with her daughter’s behaviour.

The Ho’s father took her to the hospital for treatment and the attending doctor lodged a police report at the hospital base. Both parents were detained and the mother was charged for child abuse.
She was claimed under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 325 of the Penal Code. Both charges has accumulated 17 years’ jail and RM40,000 fine on conviction.
