MTV is known for throwing impressive music events, and this year’s Video Music Awards in New York exceeded expectations of all MTV fans as it kicked off at the Barclays Center. Fans and paparazzi waited eagerly at the entrance for the arrivals of top artists and Hollywood stars and we were not disappointed as they started strutting in dressed in eye-catching outfits.
As the red carpet is all about who’s-wearing-what and dramatic or surprising show ups, here are some highlights from the 2013 MTV VMA star-studded arrivals!
Miley Cyrus went back to the 90s with a Spice Girls/Gwen Stefani-inspired outfit. She’s been trying to get away from her former tween-queen reputation for the past couple of years, so the cheeky gestures and poses on the red carpet were hardly surprising. Her performance on stage later on, however, was a different story…
As expected, Katy Perry‘s red carpet outfit matched the title of her newest single. Dressed in a fierce leopard-print Emanuel Ungaro ensemble and a dazzling grill that read ‘ROAR’, it’s pretty obvious what song she’s currently promoting!
The latest stars from the world of pop showed up on the red carpet looking like total fashion experts! Austin Mahone and Ariana Grande made a very stylish appearance before appearing on the pre-show red carpet stage to perform their songs. There have been rumours that these two cuties might be dating, but until we’ve received any confirmation, we’ll just stick to this statement: They’d look really good together, don’t you think?
Rita Ora was without a doubt one of the best dressed female stars of the night. She graced the red carpet in a stunning gown with a feathered train by Alexandre Vauthier Couture. She wasn’t nominated for any award but we would definitely give her full marks for this gorgeous outfit!
Fitness guru Richard Simmons made his own fashion statement on the VMA red carpet in a neon orange-and-green aerobic ensemble. While Rita Ora’s feathered gown wins points from style critics, Richard’s bird print outfit might not win the hearts of many.
Remember Danity Kane, the girl group who was mentored by P. Diddy? They surprised a lot of people today when they showed up at the Video Music Awards together and announced their reunion!
Rapper Drake was nominated for a few awards at this year’s VMA, but he clearly didn’t give two hoots about making an impressive red carpet appearance. Clad in black and a shirt that said ‘Nothing was the same’, Drake didn’t look too happy being in the spotlight!
