Oxford University director of undergraduate submissions believes that female students aren’t as good as boys when it comes to examinations, and being risk-takers has something to do with it.
According to Mike Nicholson: “Generally, female students are risk-averse, and will tend to take longer to think about an answer. If it’s a multiple-choice question, male students will generally go with their gut feeling. Girls will try and reason it out”.
“We have generally seen male students tend to be much more prepared to take risks, which is why they do well in exams.
Based on the recent results from A-Levels examinations, results revealed that 7 out of 10 students who sat English papers this year were girls. while eight out of 10 in physics exams were boys. [Source]
Do you agree with the statement made by Nicholson? As a female, do you find yourself making the choice to be on the safe side? What was your study routine like back in school or university?
