The US President Barack Obama has cancelled his upcoming visit to Kuala Lumpur due to the partial shutdown of the US federal government.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced that the Secretary of State John Kerry will come on behalf of the President.
“Obama expressed disappointment that he was unable to visit Malaysia as scheduled. However, the Secretary of State John Kerry will come next visit as Obama’s representative,” said the Prime Minister.

Sources have confirmed that US President Barack Obama will travel to Malaysia to attend the 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Kuala Lumpur. The two-day summit is scheduled for October 11-12, said Ben Rhodes, US deputy national security adviser.
Obama is also expected to deliver a keynote address during the meeting alongside with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, according to Mohd Irwan Serigar Bin Abdullah, secretary general of treasury at Malaysia’s Finance Ministry, who is also the head of the organizing committee.
The organizer, Ministry of Finance Malaysia said they expect more than 3,000 people from over 50 countries to attend the summit from October 11 to 12 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), with the theme “Empowering and Connecting Entrepreneurs”. A number of side events will also be held.
The first GES was initiated by Obama and was held in Washington D.C. in 2010, and subsequently in Turkey (2011) and the United Arab Emirates (2012). The US president also scheduled to visit Southeast Asia in October to attend the APEC summit in Indonesia and East Asia Summit in Brunei.
