Huzzah! Tonight’s the night to catch the Perseid meteor shower! Meteor showers are one of most spectacular things you can ever see, so take this opportunity to share this moment with your loved ones.
Angkasa advises the public to pick an open air spot which is away from all these artificial lighting to catch the dazzling display of shooting stars clearly. Apart from the Perseid phenomena, public could also encounter the sighting of planet Venus from the western horizon only after the sun has set on both days.
We’ve been getting a couple of questions about good spots to catch the meteor shower, so we’ve decided to share a couple of suggestions so you can view the shower wherever you are.
Hilltops
Hilltops are quite probably the best spots to get a good look of the meteor shower. Hilltops require a little hike to get on top, but it’ll be all worth it. After all, things like this rarely ever happen so don’t hesitate. Bukit Gasing, Bukit Kiara, Broga Hill and Penang Hill are quite probably good spots in the Klang Valley. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try Batu Caves too? (More hilltops and hiking spots)
Beaches and Lakesides
The combination of beautiful skies and the reflection of the meteor shower in the water would probably one of the most romantic sceneries you can ever imagine. If there’s a place nearby with a lake, grab a picnic blanket, some soft drinks and just watch the wonders of the world go by. (More recommendations)
Parks
Trying to get a good view of the meteor shower can be hard with all the light pollution from bustling towns. But if you can yourself in a park away from the city, you’ll be glad you did because it’s the best place to head to if you’re running out of time. Don’t forget to bring the insect repellent, though.
Home Sweet Home
Whether you live in an apartment or a house in suburbia, turn any outdoor lights in your house and just sit back with a few drinks at home. Call some friends over, or just relax under the sky and star gaze. It’ll be a great way to beat the Monday blues!
