Turkish Lawyer Says Pregnant Women in Public are ‘Disgraceful’

Here we go again. First, some Saudi man urges his Twitter followers to harass working women, then another said women shouldn’t use air-conditioners at home because it makes them do “immoral” things, then a law professor in China says it’s “OK to rape bar girls”, and now there’s this – Turkish lawyer and Sufi thinker states that its immoral for pregnant women with huge bellies to reveal themselves in public.

Omer Tugrul Inancer said the following on a Turkish TV station TRT1:

“Announcing pregnancy with a flourish of trumpets is against our civility. [They] should not wander on the streets with such bellies. First of all, it is not aesthetic.

“After seven or eight months of pregnancy, future mothers go out their husbands by car to get some fresh air. And they go out in the evening hours. But now, they are all on television. It’s disgraceful. It is not realism, it is immorality.”

So, carrying a child in your belly is immoral now?!

Inancer defended his remarks, saying that the appearance of pregnant women was not aesthetic.

“You get married and get pregnant. Okay, you did well. [However], this can not be singled out as the reason you are swinging your belly. The image is not aesthetic. I am still saying the same thing. Why don’t you understand?” These are venerable things. And venerable things are kept in a respectful way,” he said.

“Pregnancy is not made that apparent. Moreover, that’s why young girls are scared of giving birth,” Inançer said.  [Source]

We don’t know how they do things in Turkey, but we’re pretty sure that women in Turkey (or anywhere else in the world for that matter) don’t parade their bare pregnant bellies for no reason or rhyme. After all, pregnancy is such a beautiful thing, and a pregnant lady can do anything she wants to make her feel comfortable!
