Patterned leggings, especially ones with tribal prints, are one of the summer trends that we’ve noticed in the Kuala Lumpur fashion scene. Thing is, they’re either sold out in stores or are just too pricey.
The Lipstiq team has come up with a tutorial that’ll solve both of those problems: make your own tribal print leggings! Instead of wearing the same pair as everyone else, get yourself a couple of plain leggings and work your way around to making a pair that’s exclusively yours. And trust us, it’s really not that hard!
What you need:
1. A pair of dark leggings
2. A bleaching pen (available at most major department stores, e.g. Aeon or Parkson)
3. Newspaper/flattened cereal box
4. An old rag (to wipe off stains)
1. Before you lay out your leggings, grab a picture of a design you want to use as a reference. There’s no need to copy the entire design because once you start, you’ll get inspired and will want to add your own design.
2. Lay your leggings out on a flat surface. Fold the piece of newspaper or cereal box so that it easily slides in the leg piece. This is to keep the bleach from staining the other side of your leggings (unless if you want it intentionally).
3. Grab your bleach pen. We’re using a bleach pen by Clorox that retails for only RM9.90 at Aeon’s clothing detergent section. Use its pointy tip (instead of the scrubber tip), as it makes drawing patterns easier.
4. Once you know where you want to place your design on the fabric, start drawing. You can see the change in colour in just a matter of seconds.
5. Use your old rag to wipe off any bleach that gets on your skin or any surfaces the bleach comes in contact with.
6. Once your design is complete, simply soak the leggings in a pail of cold water for about 5 minutes. After that, just put it in the washing machine on its own to avoid staining other clothes, and put it out to dry.
Voila! Now you have your own customized tribal print leggings!
