Last month, Marina Bay Sands Singapore threw a one-night fashion event at The Shoppes. The VIP Fashion Night 2013 included makeovers at Sephora and Salon 360°, shopping treats, luxurious lucky draw prizes, fashion shows and more. Celebrity stylist and TV personality Jeannie Mai was flown down to host VIP Fashion Night’s main event, which was a Google Hangout with prominent names from the fashion industry to talk about the latest styles and trends. Some of the fashion figures who shared their insights that night included Monsieur Alexis Mabille, Parisian Grand Couturier, Joe Zee of Elle magazine, Paris-based fashion editor Jessica Michault and YouTube fashion and make-up celebrity Kandee Johnson.
Before the glamourous VIP Fashion Night event started, a few fashion media from Southeast Asia were ushered to the biggest suite at Marina Bay Sands for an intimate sit-down interview with Jeannie Mai. We were of course a part of the lucky group – check out what Jeannie has to say about fashion, fun and all things feminine in the video!
On her style icons:
“Karl Lagerfeld – he lives in his own world, and he’s very wise when it comes to fashion. Amanda Brooks, a fashion designer and stylist who works closely with Anna Wintour. Lastly, my mum, who taught me a concept that I developed called ‘wearapy’. It’s the psychology of colour and texture – you can either let your mood ‘dress’ you or the other way around.”
Her top five beauty items:
“False eyelashes, glips (glitter and lipstick), MAC eyeshadow colour Raisin, MAC nr. 224 brush, and the pink beauty blender sponge.”
Her current favourite trends:
“Peplums, breaking the rules – wearing two different lip colours or bleaching your eyebrows, and mixing animal patterns.”
One trend she can’t stand:
“One thing that I don’t love is when sneakers are too crazy, like those with Mickey Mouse heads on them. They’re cool for dudes, but when you’re a girl with nice, sexy legs and you have this alien head on your feet – you’re gonna look like Lindsay Lohan coming home from jail!”
The VIP Fashion Night ‘live show’ took place at The Shoppes’ skating rink and had three segments: the Google hangouts with fashion experts and two fashion shows. The first fashion show, ‘Global Trends’, presented a mash-up of monochrome outfits, bold colours and mixed patterns by brands such as Escada, Iroo, Raoul, Armani Exchange and Oroton. The second fashion show was aptly named ‘Street Style’ as the outfits were more casual-chic with a noticeable comeback of denim. The last highlight of the night was a presentation of two winners from a makeover contest organized by The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Eileen Lee and Celestine Lee were treated to a luxurious shopping spree and a complete makeover by Jeannie Mai.
VIP Fashion Night 2013 at Marina Bay Sands was a memorable experience for all fashionistas present and is a milestone for future fashion events in our region – we mean, come on, who’d ever thought combining virtual technology and the glamourous world of fashion in front of a live audience would be so enjoyable?
