Here’s an excellent reason for a weekend trip to the state of Pahang: from now until 27 February 2014, the Sultan Abu Bakar Museum in Pekan is presenting an exhibition called The Contemporary Malay Wedding curated, by Malaysia’s own Bernard Chandran.

CONTEMPORARY WEDDING 2EDIT

Expect stunning designs of bridal costumes by internationally acclaimed designer Bernard Chandran, who was inspired by traditional wedding attires to create his own unique and contemporary fashion interpretations. The bridal pieces, mounted on bespoke mannequins made in Paris, are displayed in a multi-media setting, accompanied by film footage, archive photography and text.

The Contemporary Malay Wedding features Chandran’s special creations for his high profile clientele which includes not only international and local celebrities, but also the Royal Family of Brunei. The Royal Family’s own personal pieces are on display at the exhibition: the 2005 wedding designs of Princess Hamidah, the daughter of Prince Jefri of Brunei, the 2007 wedding of Princess Majeedah and the 2012 wedding of Princess Hafizah, daughters of the Sultan of Brunei. Film footages from these Royal weddings will be screened to allow visitors a visual understanding of their original celebratory environment.

Whether you’re a lover of fashion, a future bride looking for outfit inspirations or just someone who needs an excuse for a roadtrip, this is certainly a beautiful exhibition that you wouldn’t want to miss out on!
