Mufti of Perlis, Datuk Murshyid Diraja Dr Juanda Jaya said the meeting of the State Fatwa Committee on June 24 had decided on the ban and a letter would be sent to the state government and Kangar Municipal Council (MPK) regarding the issue.
Dr Juanda Jaya said that he hoped the MPK would stop the sale of shisha for the benefit of the people. He said the practice of smoking the shisha was not only a waste of time for youths, but is also hazardous to health.
The ban on shisha had been implemented by the Melaka state government since 2009. Perlis aims to follow in the footsteps of Melaka as the habit is detrimental to health. (Source)
A recent study suggests that shisha (or hookah) has been linked to cause leukemia as well as lung cancer.
