A thicker shroud of haze is smothering us with an increasing API (Air Pollution Index). Toddlers and babies are extremely vulnerable to . It will irritate baby’s nose, eyes, airways, skin and throat. The fine particles found in the haze will penetrate deep into the baby’s lungs causing bad cough, sneezing, and sore throat. If your baby has a history of respiratory problems, sinusitis, skin allergy and asthma, the symptoms may be more severe. Here are some simple and direct ways to protect your baby from the effects of the haze.

Stay Away from Smokers
If you or your husband are smokers, you should refrain from smoking in front of your baby. Keep your baby away from other smokers because the contents in cigarettes contain nicotine, which is extremely harmful to babies. If an adult can gag after inhaling a cloud of smoke, imagine how much worse it’ll be for kids.

Breast Feed Your Baby
Breast feeding is one of the best ways to protect your baby’s health. The baby will able to get your natural immunities and antibodies as long as he/she’s breeding mummy’s milk. Breastfed babies generally develop better immune systems and more defensive from illness

Practice Good Hygiene
Be more cautious when it comes to this. Double-up the efforts by changing diapers, bathing, clothing and often wash hands. As for adults please keep your hands clean and use a hand sanitizer before holding your baby. Make sure all the toys are also cleansed and sanitized.

Stay Indoors
When it comes to this critical situation, outdoor activities need to be stop to avoid direct interaction from the harmful chemicals present in the air. Stay at home, keep your windows closed and make sure the air circulation in your house is good enough. There are so many great games you can play with your baby and toddler.

If you have older children or teenagers, keep their health in check with these tips too:

  • Stop wearing contact lenses, replace with specs.
  • Look for a mask with better filtration for the kids. Make sure they wear it all the time whenever they’re outdoors. Change them immediately when it becomes distorted.
  • Prepare some common medicine for symptoms such as sneezing, cough or dry cough. Always consult your paediatrician before giving medicine to your children.
  • See the doctor if your kids are suffering from any of the symptoms above get worse.
  • Always prepare meals rich in vegetables and fruits.
