An 18-year-old trainee gave birth to a baby boy in the bathroom of the Sri Ledang PKLN camp in Jementeh, Segamat, Johor.
The camp employees rushed her and the 2.7kg baby to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, but the baby died shortly after. The trainee is safe and further investigation will be carried out.
According to the National Service Training Department (PLKN), there’s a possibility that female trainees will have to undergo pregnancy tests before participating in the National Service Training Programme.
“I have to bring the matter to the attention of the top management. It is vital to ensure that those who undergo for the training will not face the problem,” said JLKN director-general Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil.
This decision was made mainly to avoid concealed pregnancy among female trainees following the delivery of a baby in the training camp in Johor that happened on Wednesday.
“The matter must be finalised by the government.” He added.
