A man in Rawang was stopped by the Malaysian Independent Animal Rescue (MIAR) from hitting his dog.
Lorry Driver Krishnan Ramlo, 45, claimed he had beaten the dog because “it had gone mad” and bitten his hand. Krishnan had hit his dog, Jacky with a hoe and threw a brick at the dog, leaving it with an open wound on its head. Jacky bled and fell into the drain, unable to move. MIAR president, T. Puspa Rani said Jacky vomited “blood and a long piece of rope”
The vet who treated Jacky said it had a lung condition and was constantly in pain. This gave Jacky a temperament issue. It is believed that Jacky had been tied up all day and night by its owner, with no shade and was just fed water.
Meanwhile, the Animal Welfare Bill is expected to be gazetted later this year, with an amendment to the current Animal Act to mete harsher punishment to those cruel to animals. The provisions include a fine of between RM20,000 and RM100,000 and a jail term of up to three years. (Source)
