Looks like Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries isn’t really the brains behind his controversial comments shaming plus-size teens.

Sometime back, Jeffries said:

“It’s almost everything. That’s why we hire good-looking people in our stores. Because good-looking people attract other good-looking people, and we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don’t market to anyone other than that”.

According to sources, the person of power behind that discriminating statement isn’t a board member, executive, manager, or even an employee. That person, is longtime partner of Jeffries, Matthew Smith. (Yes, Mike Jeffries is openly gay)

Smith may not be in the actual works of the A&F business empire, current and former A&F employees said that Smith holds a vast influence over the the retailer’s operations and strategic direction.

Smith plays the role as an unofficial executive in A&F, and his role raises questions about the corporate governance of the retail giant. Two former executives have even used the word “dangerous” when describing Smith, citing the fact that he is organizationally unaccountable if something we to go wrong, even if it really was his plan.

Well, Jeffries. Time to sort your man out!
