“Not everyone gets to experience a surgery and more specifically an awake brain surgery.”
Brad Carter was undergoing a brain pacemaker implantation on May 23 at UCLA Health in Los Angeles. He diagnosed with a neurological disorder in year 2006 that gave him tremors and twitching hands.
Carter requested to the doctors if he could play his blues axe to make sure the pacemaker had worked before the surgery starts. This was part of a series of short videos posted by UCLA Health in Los Angeles. The video then shows the medics preparing Carter for the operation by sterilizing his head and a few clips later a machine is seen drilling into his skull.
In the middle of his surgery, the footage shows Carters saying hello to his parents while his surgeons operate on him before singing and playing guitar. This was something his tremors always made difficult.
The video was then shared by the doctors.
“I thought it was a great opportunity to share with the world,” said Dr Pouratian. Watch the video here.
