With over 117 million hits in April alone, 107.8 million blogs, 50.6 billion posts and predictions of a $100 million revenue this year it is no wonder Tumblr is seen to be the apple of Yahoo’s eye!
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is keen to nab the attention of the 18-25 year old demographic with the bid to buy Tumblr. AdWeek has independently made the flurry of rumours seem more believable by confirming that the talks are serious and that there could even be a price tag as high as $1 billion.
Yahoo have the issue of a growing demographic and want to make themselves ‘cool’ again, given this, Tumblr could be just what they need. However, Yahoo have a history of making deals which have then flopped due to irrational enthusiasm. Such as the buying of Mark Cuban’s Broadcast.com. Though this was in 1999 and there is a different CEO now, will things follow through? Guess we’ll just have to watch our dashboards and see!
