A  Mother’s Day parade in New Orleans turned into a tragedy when multiple gunmen opened fire, leaving 19 people were injured . Most of the victims in the incident were children who were mostly grazed, but three people wet reported in serious condition.

The FBI believes the incident could be due to “street violence”, not terrorism.

“Just a very tragic day for us again in New Orleans, especially on Mother’s Day,” Mayor Mitch Landriue told reports Sunday evening. “We have mothers that were shot, sisters that were shot, little children that were shot”.

Two participants of the parade said they heard about six or seven shots. A witness, Gretchen Ramke said “Right before it happened, there was some idiot on his trampoline on the left side [of the parade route], and everybody was looking at this fool”, and that was when the shooting began.

Mary Beth Romig, a spokeswoman for the FBI in New Orleans, told sources that federal investigators have no indication that the shooting was an act of terrorism, unlike the Boston Marathon bombings that took place in April.

“It’s strictly an act of street violence in New Orleans,” she said.

A local journalist was reported to be wounded in the shooting, but is in stable condition at the hospital, where she underwent surgery.
