Everyone who lives in Kuala Lumpur would know Sungei Wang Plaza – it’s one of the city’s oldest malls that houses all kinds of products, from fashion to beauty to mobile phones. But even the most well-known and eclectic places would need a face-lift after 30-odd years, and Sungei Wang Plaza’s refurbishment will cost RM30 million.

The new look will include new ceilings and tiles, a repainted facade, upgraded lift lobbies, improved mall signage and new balustrades and lighting at the main atrium. The construction of a covered walkway has already started along the mall’s frontage on Jalan Sultan Ismail, and its completion will create a link with the covered walkway between Bukit Bintang’s shopping centres constructed by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.

Although the works are still in progress, you can still visit Sungei Wang Plaza to do your desired shopping, as there will be no closure of business. Since it first opened in 1977, this is only the second time the famous mall has undergone major refurbishment exercise.

The renovation of Sungei Wang Plaza started last November 2012 and is set to finish by end of this year.
