DIY Thread Woven Chunky Necklace

Chunky necklaces are all the rage this season. There’s no denying it, since it’s been seen on all the displays and racks of famous brands as well being rocked by celebrities such as Rihanna, as well as Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen to name a few. However, this look may not be suitable for just about anyone because not many people would wear too much bling or something that looks quite hardcore. So here’s an alternative for those of you who would like to make it more toned down by dressing it up (Ironic, I know!).
1

Things you will need:
– a curb link chain (or bracelet, depending on your preference)
– embroidery thread, you need atleast (we used 6 colours)
– scissors
– scotch tape

First of all you will need to cut the embroidery thread as you will be using it to weave through the chain. What I did was, I folded each embroidery thread colour that is used into half, and measured it 2 and a half times longer than the chain, just to be safe you can even do three. Make sure you be careful not to tangle them (I had a problem with that, and it took m e quite awhile to untangle it all).

2
Once you have done that, knot the threads together on the top as shown above and seperate the thread into two sides, side A and side B. Here is where the scotch tape comes in handy. Just the bottom of each side once seperated, in order to help you weave and not get tangled. After this is where the tricky part begins, so play very close attention!

Use side A and go through the bottom of the first hole in the curb chain (from back to front).

3
The first step is really simple and it foundation of how the basics of the chain will turn out. The second step is to use side B and go over side A (the one you’ve already pulled out, after that go through the first hole (like you did with A & pull it out the same way as well).

4
The next step is basically a repeat of your first step. So here is where remembering which is side A and side B is really important. You don’t want to confuse yourself halfway and have to redo the entire thing.

Repeat, side A going through 2nd hole of the chain, again through the back and out the front. The rest of the steps are a repeat. It may seen really complicating in the beginning, but after a few attempts (two or three, it’s not all that difficult!) you’ll probably get it 🙂

Just continue repeating the entire thing until you reach the end, then tie a knot, cut the excess thread and your done.

Once your done, you’ll have an entire different, more feminine look. The best part is, once your bored, you can cut it off and do another weave. Easy for you to mix and match with any outfit since you can customize is according to your preference.
