Urinals for Girls in China

Experts says that it is advisable for us to face our fears in order to overcome them so here’s a secret that has been buried deep within me, I’m afraid of toilets in China. I’m not sure is it because I’ve heard countless stories about toilets in China not having doors or is it my bad childhood experience I had in the country where I had to perform some big business within the view of my mum (or I could be dreaming that happened), I’ve always had nightmares about going to China and end up in toilets with no doors or barriers whatsoever.

But don’t let me scare you, times has passed, and if it was true that toilets back then had no doors, it was definitely the past. My recent trip to China about a year ago proved that toilets in China (or Shen Zhen at least) have doors and that’s not it, they have stand up urinals too. Found in Shanxi Normal University in Xi’an City, the female urinal was designed to help conserve water. The urinal even comes with a poster that writes, “If every woman urinates standing, Shaanxi Normal University can save up to 160 tons of water every day.”

Wow, how much water do they use when they pee in a regular toilet that requires flushing? Haven’t they heard of toilet bowls that comes with two different flush – one for big and another for small business? Anyhow, there, I told you my secret, now can someone please verify for me that it is untrue and that toilet incident with my mum was just a nightmare? I feel like I’m in Inception now, I don’t know what’s reality anymore, so I hope it was just a nightmare. Squat, sit or stand, I don’t care, I just want doors!
