Ever had to do something but was completely uninspired? Sometimes we wish creativity was as simple as switching on a button, however unfortunately for us, our brains have different plans and refuse to cooperate. As much as you sit down and try to force a brilliant idea out of you, it just doesn’t seem to work. Sitting around and praying inspiration strikes never works in our favour, so instead we’ve come up with several ways to help keep the creative juices flowing no matter how many times it comes to a halt.
No Electronic Devices
You heard me. Handphones, laptops, computers, any form of internet access, everything unplugged and shut down! I know the very idea of it seems a little scary (because we’re all so dependant on technology) but some alone time without any form of distraction can only mean some peace of mind. At first you’ll have urges to check your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest (and Lipstiq.com) but sometime off from all these can be more benfitial to your mental health. Take a few hours off a day, it’ll be more calming and eventually help you do some productive thinking.
Mind Mapping
Sitting down staring at a blank piece of paper completely uninspired? No problem. Just jot down a word, and mind map from there. As it expands, your thinking process becomes more intense hence helping your creative train of thought process. This is probably the easiest way to get ideas forming and is a tectic used in most art schools and creative thinking seminars.
Inspiration Folder
This one is so easy, and fun to do! Whenever you read an article or quote you feel relates to you or even makes you smile, or see pictures that intrigue and inspire you, just save it into a file. It can be done in a computer, a physical file or even sketched or jotted down in a notebook. This way, when uninspired, just go through things that inspire you and feed your mind with ideas.
Relax and Breathe
Ever realised how your mind tends to wander when you’re trying your level best to just rest? Do some basic chores that involved hardly any thinking. Think along the lines of cleaning your room or gardening. Your brains have the ability to multi task. So as you are working on one extremely simple task, your mind will wander and usually that helps.
Change of Scene
Take a trip! It doesn’t have to be to a different country or event state. It can be somewhere that’s just different from your usual surroundings. Ypou don’t need to splurge, instead take a budget trip to somewhere close and affordable. Chances are the time you have travelling, be it alone or with friends will give you time to think, or even talk about your lack of inspiration. Just keep your mind free, and your eyes open. You’ll never know when inspiration hits!
