With regards to the upcoming 13th General Elections, only 13.3 million Malaysians who registered as voters before Dec 31 last year are eligible to case their ballots in this general election.
Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, Election Commission (EC) deputy chairman said those who applied from January 1 this year will not be able to vote in this election as there is not enough time to process their names for inclusion in the electoral roll that’s updated once every three months.
As of February 22nd, the electoral roll contains a whopping total of 13,291, 385 names who registered by December 31st last year.
The general election also saw an unprecedented increase of 2.4 million new voters, where one-third of them will be casting their ballots for the first time. Selangor recorded the biggest increase in new voters .
