Contrary to popular belief, a new study has recently broke the myth that chewing gum can help to lose weight.
According to our source, a new study published in the April issue of the journal Eating Behaviours shows that chewing gum won’t curb our appetite or help us lose weight.
It was reported that the mint gums making it more tempting to reach for something less healthy, the researchers say.
Researchers from University at Buffalo in the US conducted the research on 44 volunteers by asking them to play a gambling-style game with food as the prize, with some subjects playing for orange slices and grapes, while others played for potato chips and M&Ms. The result shows that half of the participants who chewed mint-gum were “significantly less” motivated to play for the fruit.
Participants were also asked to keep a food journal and it shows that participants ate fewer meals but higher calorie. Swobodato told Live Science that the menthol in mint create a bitter flavour when interacts with nutrients in fruits and veggies.
It is, however, chewing gum was proven to boost your concentration in another study.
