Women are no longer safe in India, including from their husbands. Indian Police reported that a woman was raped by four men, including her estranged husband, inside a lawyer’s chamber.
The victim said that the incident took place in a lawyer’s chambers in Patiala court complex. She claimed that her husband’s lawyer called her to the court on pretext of settling her divorce petition. She said that her husband and sister-in-law took her to the chamber, where she was raped by the lawyer, his assistant, her husband’s brother-in-law, and her husband.
Rape is one of the most common crimes against women in India. In 2011, 24,206 rape cases were registered in India, however experts agree that the number of reported cases were much higher.
We certainly hope that the justice system sees that rape is never a way to solve an issue, even in marriage.
