Truth to told, if someone tell you that K-pop trend will die down soon, then they thought wrong. It’s true that K-pop has been around for quite some time, but to say that the K-pop will not be trending anymore is a mere nonsense. Korean music industry is like American music industry as they just continues to grow throughout the years. Idols are now reaching out to their overseas fans with concerts or showcases and even touring around the world. It is only part of the beginning of K-pop invasion and it is set to stay for a really long time. Regardless of how K-pop haters have extreme opinions on them, but the idols continue to shine with their devoted and loyal fans whose have always been supportive of their work.
But idols are not just being glamorous and famous through their career as there are many different kind of aspects of life needed to be taken care of especially their body image and attitude. As idols are believed to be the embodiment of perfection, many fans became obsessed with their beauty and find ways to change their overall appearance. The beauty culture has evolved with so many terms and concepts that are frequently used among the K-pop community. Considered this as our 101 guide to the K-pop world, here are some terms and phrases you should know the most about the female idols’ body images.
11 Abs

It isn’t surprising to see the idols with their amazing bodies as the idols often follow a strict diet and regular workout. For some, their consistency in working out and eating healthy food help them to build up muscles around their stomach area. These idols were seen often seen with visible abs and netizens have given them a nickname ’11 abs’ due to its defined lines that almost resemble the number 11. The 11 abs usually contain very low fat content and f(x)’s Krystal revealed that her waist stays like this even though she don’t exercise much.

Ant Waist
( KARA’s Goo Hara, SNSD’s Yuri)
With size zero models dominating the fashion world, the ant-waist seems to dominate the K-pop world instead as many idols were seen having a very thin waist. The term ‘ant-waist’ first popped out in 2009 when KARA’s representatives revealed the member Goo Hara’s 20 inch waistline. Her waist size instantly became a hot topic among the netizens during that time and described her waist size as the waist size of an ant. The netizens also created a list of female idols who shared the similar waist size with Hara, including B2Y’s Nara who has the thinnest 18-inch waistline among the others. The waist size for ant-waist idols usually range from 18-inch to 24-inch.

Honey Thighs
( 2NE1’s Park Bom, Secret’s Hyosung, After School’s UEE )
As compared to idol’s thin bony legs, most people prefer idols with ‘honey thighs’. The term ‘honey thighs’ was given to describe idols who have perfect-proportioned legs with very little fat on them. After School’s UEE first donned the title of being ‘The Queen of Honey Thighs’ as her legs didn’t appear to be too skinny nor too fat. It was a short way of saying “sweet-as-honey thighs” but the term has created a controversy once as it was deemed as an offensive sexual word. However, the term still continues to be used until today.

There are a lot more terms such as eye smile, S-line, X-line, bagel (baby face with amazing bodies), chocolate abs and so on that describe the body images of the K-pop idols. However, the list is going to be a never-ending list as netizens continue to create more terms and phrases to describe their idols’ body. Although it’s a great way to recognize these idols with the terms and phrases, but then again labeling just seems a little bit unnecessary, don’t you think?
