Set at a sky-high prices, high-end fashion brands used to be the specialties that only the wealthy class can afford to own them. But with the rise of high street fashion trends, high-end fashion brand is no longer an option for most people as they prefer cheaper alternatives. As high street fashion style becomes a trend among fashion followers, designers foresee high street fashion is a perfect platform for them to portray their brands. More and more designers approach fashion giants such as Topshop and H&M, as well as iconic artist for collaboration to offer more affordable and stylish pieces with the exclusive luxe designer goods. Over the years, we’ve seen so many designer collaborations but here are some of our favorites so far.
1. Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama
Luxurious designer brand, Louis Vuitton collaborated with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama for one of the collections. The collection features Kusama’s iconic polka dots as well the iconic monogram canvas of Louis Vuitton. Despite the overload of polka dots in the collection, but the unison of art and fashion exudes wild charm in the crazy fantasy of polka dots.
2. Louise Gray x Topshop
Everything is loud from the Scottish designer, Louise Gray’s collaboration with Topshop as the collection was filled with all kind of fun with eye-popping elements. Gray’s obsession with bright colours didn’t stop her from creating an exclusively colourful collection for Topshop as the collection includes bold glitter nail polishes, neon lipsticks and super-bright blush duo. The collection also includes a six-piece clothing line featuring dresses, jackets, T-shirts and trousers, with clashing colours and shimmering sequins.
3. Anna Dello Russo x H&M
As editor of Vogue Japan, Anna Dello Russo’s collaboration with fashion giant H&M consists of exquisite gold lining on top of turquoise on every single item. The collection itself is attention-grabbing yet classy, as if portraying Anna Dello Russo’s sense of style. The wide array of accessories were uniquely designed by ADR especially for women who wants to own the head-turning accessories.
3. Christian Siriano x Payless
The 4th season of Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano may be young, but his success made him into the list of ‘Craine’s Top 40 Entrepreneurs Under 40’ in 2010. The young designer then collaborated with several mass market retails including Payless which he debuts his low-cost shoes and handbags on his runways. Eventually, he continues to release four more collections for Payless annually, including a higher priced “Gold Collection.
4. Versace x H&M
Versace’s collaboration with H&M is a long-awaited collaboration for fashion followers as the iconic fashion brand has always been a must for a bold fashion sense. The collection for women included draped metal mesh dresses, silk-crêpe dresses with gold buttons, multi-coloured panel print dresses and the classic Versace studded leather jacket, while for men there are sharp suits, printed sweaters and print shirts, and studded leather jackets and trousers.
5. Comme des Garcons x H&M
The monochromatic tones and the asymmetrical cuts are all traits of Rei Kawakubo’s style in designing her own fashion brand, Comme des Garcons’. When the designer decided to collaborate with mass market retail H&M, we can expect something a little bit more from Rei Kawakubo’s iconic designs at more affordable prices. The collection is nothing but dark, cold colour that gives an edgy cool look.
7. JW Anderson x Topshop
JW Anderson with Topshop collection is truly an incredible collection as the young British designer put on his signature prints and anchor logo into the collection. Heavily inspired by his own ready-to-wear label, the collection is more wearable even with his unique designs. The collection offers a great variety of prints including his signature paisley prints, as well zebra, spider, and tortoise prints.
8. Peter Pilotto x Lisa Marie Fernandez
Stylist-turned-swimwear designer Lisa Marie Fernandez and Peter Pilotto, together they created one of the most celebrated swimwear collections in the history of fashion. Peter Pilotto’s signature prints on the Lisa Marie’s scuba-inspired swim pieces are just match made in heaven. Despite being the swimwear, the collection is even wearable in the daily outfit rather just being the outfit at the beach.
9. Mary Katrantzou x Colette
Known for the dramatic yet elegant digital arts, designer Mary Katrantzou collaborated with Current Elliott and release a special capsule collection of imprinted denim pieces. The collection is the result of intersection between art and fashion with a unique denim cuts by Current Elliott. Mary Katrantzou successfully made her prints stand out from the rest and the use of pale colour toned down the prints that make the collection more wearable.
10. Christopher Kane x Topshop
Scottish designer Christopher Kane’s signature style are, of course, expected in his collaboration with Topshop’s collection. However, the collection is slightly different from his usual style but it was subtle and perhaps barely noticeable too. The edgy rock collection is complemented with graphic prints, sleek cutting as well as brilliant texture. As for accessories, the studded bag is definitely in the list of must-own, along with the studded legging too.
