While the loafers or the smoking slippers are still our favourite shoes at the moment, but Isabel Marent’s signature shoes, the high top sneakers caught our attention for being the next possible shoes to rock on street! But, first it all went down to the history that the high top sneakers weren’t exactly Isabel Marent’s signatures as this shoe trend has already existed since the 80s but it was donned by the hip-hop groups such as Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and so on.

In fact, Korean idol groups such as Big Bang, 2NE1, 4 Minute, Wonder Girls and so on were already seen rocking this trend since 2008. Though it was considered as normal for boy group to wear sneakers on stage’s performances, but for girl groups to wear high-top sneakers totally give a fresh twist to the usual performances. The girl groups ditched the high heels and opted for the comfortable alternative, which also make them look more casual and sporty. The latest girl group who donned the trend is Girl’s Generation in their music video “I Got A Boy” with their bright, colourful and off-beat style.

However, the shoes have been dubbed as ‘the summer’s ugliest shoe trend’ by The Daily Beast and the well-know fashion blogger Leandra Medine from ‘The Man Repeller’ also commented that the shoes were ‘truly ugly’ before she tried them on. The new term ‘ugly chic’ has since created as people are finding it hard to resist the comfy high top sneakers.

As for now, the trend have successfully make its way to the fashionable high street store and become the latest bestseller in the store. Designer brands such as Christian Louboutin, Isabel Marant, Miu Miu and Marc Jacobs  have approached the fashion trend and recreate the look in a more feminine yet edgy way. The hidden wedges and the soft material in the sole just made the shoes a lot more comfortable to wear.

The style emerged into a kind of sports-luxe style that hasn’t been in the trend for a while until recently. The sneakers also become one of the latest accessories for travel outfits.

Although The sneaker trend hasn’t garnered a lot of attention yet in most countries but we can definitely how it still has the staying power in the fashion world. The designers have also slowly making the trend with a more high-end options
