As eyes are the first thing people notice in you, eye makeup is a must yet it is tricky to apply. To help you on it, here is a quick and easy guide on how to do your own eye makeup!

1. Identify your eye shape

As different people have different eye shapes, it is important to identify your eye shapes so that eye makeup flatters your eyes. There are 8 types of eye shapes and they are monolids, deep set eyes, hooded eyelids, protruding eyes, upturned eyes, downturned eyes, close set eyes and wide set eyes. The most common eye shape is upturned eyes (also known as almond eyes) and the eyes look good with any kind of makeup.

2. Choose your look you want

From smokey eye makeup to au natural to colourful eye makeup, experience with different kinds of eye makeup to find out which eye makeup looks best on you. Besides that, do make sure the eye makeup is suitable for the occasion and heavy eye makeup is usually not preferable during a professional formal event.

3. Perfect texture

Find the perfect formula for your eye makeup and choose them based on the weather and the condition of your skin. The soft shadows can be applied with a brush or a fingertip to cover your crinkly lids. Choose the long-lasting formulas so that it will stay up and will not slide when skin is slick.

4. Choose the base

For most eye makeup looks, choose the base tone with the hue that matches your skin tone or even out the skin tone. Saturate your lids from your lash line to your brow with a large shadow brush.

5. Conceal

To make sure the colour of your eye makeup is even, cover up your under-eye circles with concealer. Choose the concealer that matches your skin tone. Apply three dots of concealer under each eye nea the edges and the centre. Gently pat them so that it will blend in and cover up your under-eye circles.

6. Eyeshadow

Use a three-toned shadow and start with the lightest color that almost matches your lid and sweep the colour across the lids to browbone. Follow with a medium colour across your lid and lastly the darkest colour in the crease. Make sure the colour blend into each other so that it doesn’t look like a stark line in the crease.

7. Pick the right eyeliner

There are three types of eyeliner to choose; gel eyeliner, pencil eyeliner and liquid eyeliner. The most commonly used is the pencil eyeliner as it is to apply while the gel eyeliner are usually for the professional makeup artist. Liquid eyeliner aims for a precise and defined line hence it is the most difficult to use. Make sure the eyeliner is water-proof so that it will not smudge. The lines should start from the inner corner to the outer right above the upper lashes.

8. Thick and long lashes

A perfect eye makeup must have a beautiful thick and long eye lashes. Curl your lashes with eyelash curler and apply mascara so that the lashes will stay curled. To apply mascara, look down without moving your head and place the wand of your mascara at the bottom of your lashes and wiggle back and forth. Repeat it with a few sweeps of the wand.

9. Eyebrow

Before applying eyebrow liner, groom your eyebrow by plucking out the strays and shape them into natural shape. Then angle the pencil up to your eyebrow and lightly stroke your eyebrows quickly to fill in the colour where it’s missing. Blend the colour and gently brush your eyebrows in place.

10. Loose powder

Finally, apply a subtle amount of loose powder for a sheer finish with a hint of shimmer and voila, you’ve finally master the eye makeup skill!

It takes time to master the eye makeup skill but like what everyone said, practice makes perfect! Once you know the techniques, you can do your own eye makeup in the shortest time!
