Mood swings are common among the new mother but apparently, this is not the only behaviour change in new mother as they are more likely to suffer from OCD as well.
According to a new study published in The Journal of Reproductive Medicine, new mother are more likely to suffer from temporary case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) after giving birth. The study involved 461 women who delivered babies in 2009 and was asked to complete a mental healthy surveys two weeks after birth. The results came back six month later and it shows that women were obsessed with dirt and gems the most.
The new mother were found repeatedly checking appliance is off or washing their hands because it can help to calm the nerves, said Auckland-based registered psychotherapist Blair Schulze. He said the disorder is triggered by stressful or traumatic events including childbirth and it’s often very distressing to them.
Assistant professor of maternal and child health at the University of North Carolina, Dr Samantha Meltzer-Brody said the worrying about germs and dirt can be normal but spending hours cleaning and sterilising may not be. Mr Schulze said it is important to sough professional help as OCD is a life-long disorder.
Well, one thing for sure that being a woman is never easy but being a mother is just ten times harder than that!
