STUDY: Watching TV Ruins Relationships

A recent study done by Albion College has found that the more realistic people thought about their favorite TV characters’ love lives, the less likely they are to be happy about their own relationships.

The researchers interviewed more than 300 married couples and asked them questions on how satisfied they were with their relationship, what they expected from their relationship, how committed they felt to each other and how realistic they thought of certain TV romances, and also, how often they watched TV.

From the study made, they found that the more a person believed a TV romance was realistic, the more they thought they were sacrificing a lot in their own relationship – for example, giving up their personal freedom. They also were more likely to look more into their spouse’s unattractive qualities and thought other people were more attractive in comparison.

So in other words, if you’re watching one too many TV series – you might want to slow down and not judge your relationship on that. As much we love a dose of sitcoms, keep it to a minimum and focus on the right parts of your relationship!
