In Hong Kong, a computer technician has been sentenced to eight months in prison for animal cruelty.
Mok Chung-ting, 31, burned his neighbors dog after being unable to sleep due to the dogs barking. He told the court that he was unable to sleep well for a few months due to the dog’s constant barking at night. The neighbor’s house is about 140 metres away from the apartment he was staying in.
Apparently, Mok splashed paint thinner on the six-year-old mongrel named, Siu Wong and set the canine on fire. Unfortunately, the burns were severe on his face, head and body – and the dog died a few hours later.
The acting Principal Magistrate, Li Wai-chi said that Mok has been extremely cruel and cold-hearted towards the animal and is calling action to the worst case of animal cruelty that he has ever seen in the 20 years that he has been on the bend. Therefore, he felt that this eight month sentence was necessary.
The dog’s owner, Chan told Cable News that Sui Wong had always been a good dog and that it is still difficult to overcome this situation of loosing it. “If you had seen it [the injured dog], you too would be frightened.” (source)
