Rihanna has been on a roller coaster of success for the past few years – and there is no stopping.
Just a few months ago, it was announced that she will be designing her first ready-to-wear collection for high street brand, River Island at the Autumn/Winter ’13 London Fashion Week. And, just as promised, she sent her designs down the runway, and well it looks like there are a few critics who really didn’t enjoy the collection.
Overall, the collection was a vision of her personal style. Keeping things plain and simple yet always adding that little edge of sexy to the entire outlook. We can’t say it’s too bad – but for a high fashion brand, we understand where these critics are coming from.
Tom Sykes from ‘The Daily Beast’ is saying that the collection is ‘hideous without an ounce of panache’, as for MTV Style’s’ Chrissy Mahlmeister she is saying that she is “totally on-board with her comfy girl-yet-grunge pieces.” As for Elle’s fashion director, Anne-Marie Curtis, she dubbed the collection as “an ode to all things high fashion” and she also described the collection as “Eighties Norma Kamali meets Alexander Wang luxe sportswear”
The word is that the pop princess had to make the guests at her first show wait for an hour – for a show that lasted a total of nine minutes. (That’s every nightmare at any fashion show)
None the less, her collection was a test to see her skill – we’re not sure if she’ll actually take it up. But take a look at some of the pieces from her collection and tell us if you think it’s ‘high fashion’ worthy.
