Which celebrities or world icons were adopted Some of them just have the saddest backgrounds but all found their way round it and became the better versions of themselves. We’re listing down a couple of celebrities who were adopted and open about it.
1. Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie may look up to Lionel Richie as her father – but the truth is, he’s not even blood related. Nicole’s biological father is Peter Michael Escovedo was a musician that played with Lionel Richie for a brief amount of time – and Karen was the executive assistant for her aunt Sheila E. At the age three, her parents agreed to let her move in the Lionel Richie and Brenda Harvey because they could not afford to provide for her financially. “My parents were friends with Lionel” she told this to People magazine in 2003. “They trusted that they would be better able to provide for me” – and it sure looks like he did.
2. Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs are born in 1955 to an unwedded couple, Joanne Simpson and Abdulfattah John Jandali who put Jobs up for adoption when he was an infant. He was then adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs, who was a machinist and an accountant. As an adult, Jobs tracked his family history, discovering that his parents eventually got married and had a daughter, who he was apparently close to before he passing.
3. Nelson Mandela
This anti-Apartheid leader was initially raised by his parents, but his father died when he was 9-years-old and he was taken to the larger village of Mqhekezweni, the Thembu capital, where he was informally adopted by the chief of that village. Through rituals of the tribe, eventually, Mandela’s adoption was acknowledged by the people.
4. Marilyn Monroe
This one came to us as a little shocker. But iconic actress, Marilyn Monroe was originally born as Norma Jean Mortenson to an unmarried film-editing assistant who goes by the name of Gladys Baker, who later baptized Marilyn with her own last name. Her father was psychologically unstable and was then committed to an institution early in Monroe’s life. As for her mother, she was institutionalized and Monroe then bounced around through at least nine different foster homes until she was 11, when she went to live with Grace McKee Goddard, who was a family friend.
5. John Lennon
This musical genius was born to parents Julia Stanley and Alfred Lennon, but they separated when he was only 3 years-old. Then not long after, his father then virtually disappeared and by the time John was 5, his mother placed him to be raised by his Aunt Mimi and Uncle George. Though he didn’t cut off all ties with his mother, she would she him frequently but she never raised him as a full-time parent.
6. Faith Hill
Born in Jackson, Mississippi as Audrey Faith Perry in 1967. Faith Hill was adopted at one week old by Edna Perry, a bank teller and Ted, a factory worker who already had two biological songs. Raised in Mississipi, Faith then met her birth mother in 1993, discovering that her parents had been unwed when she was given up for adoption, but then later married and had a son. In 2004 in an interview with Good Housekeeping, she said “I was adopted into this incredible home, a loving, positive environment, yet I had this yearning, this kind of darkness that was also inside me.” It took Faith Hill three long years to find her biological mother.
7. Jamie Foxx
Jamie Foxx is your complete package – actor, musician and all around funny man. Born as Eric Marlon Bishop in Tarrel, Texas – he was brought up by his grandparents. When Foxx was 7 months old, his mother, Louise, divorced from his father – that’s when his grandparents Mark and Esther Talley, adopted him.It is also shown that his grandmother had a significant inclufluence on the life that he lives now, always encouraging Foxx in his music, studies and even sports. Now, as an adult, Foxx has been advocating for adoption and talking about the subject as often as possible.
