Rihanna is one of those icons who you can watch continuously and never fail to be surprised or amazed. Whether it’s her music, or her style, it just keeps getting better (or worse sometimes)… but none the less, it’s over all entertaining.
We’re taking a look at her fashion style through out the years – from when she first came out with her ‘Pon De Replay’ some up until now. Though it has only been six years in the making, Rihanna is a completely different person than when she first started out.
Back in 2006, the singer was all kinds of innocent. Her fashion sense wasn’t too revealing, nor was it too conservative as well. Her hair was simple and long, with a streak of bangs without anything outrageous. In 2007, she started to up her game and tried something new. This is when her hit song ‘Umbrella’ came into play, and that’s when Rihanna really started to shine bright (like a diamond). She brought on a new trend that flooded the world, the bob cut. She did, then Victoria Beckham did it… and then it continued. She also went jet-black and made her style a little more edgy and rough. Adding gloves to her outfits, started to be something that was signature to her style. Things started to soften in 2008, when she got a pixie hair cut and started to bring more colours and dresses to her wardrobe – this is when you started to see the more feminine and loving side to Rihanna.
In 2009, Rihanna flipped back into being edgy and hardcore – wearing fashion items that really made a statement. From bold colours to one-of-a-kind sunglasses. Then came her phase in 2010, when she brought yet another trend to the table – bright red hair. That’s when everyone started to colour their hair in the most outrageous shades. She also continued to explore the ‘weird’ side to fashion – but someone, it didn’t look extremely outrageous on her. But still did look a little off. And this flowed through to 2011, the funky outfits and outrageous colours continued to spill over at award shows and on the red carpet. It really was in 2012 when it all changed. She style switched up into something more, ‘gangster’ and the more rebellious side came out. You can see that this is when she started to find her path and her personal style. Her true colours started to show and nearing the end of 2012 and into 2013, she really brought it. Though she started to become more explicit – we think her concept was to show her all and be as transparent as possible.
