Major Google Security Flaw Puts Users’ Details On Display

Looks like Google has now got themselves in a little tangle.

A bug for the Google Play app has been discovered – and it’s not looking good for the creators and the users. App developer, Dan Nolan discovered this little mistaken when he logged into his Google Play account to update his payment details and that’s when he realized that he had the names, addresses and email addresses of everyone who had purchased his app – even the people who have canceled their orders. (source)

Why is it bad? Well, with the Google customers’ details just sitting in the app developers accounts, all that is needed as a malware software for that information to be accessed. These personal details can be used to access the users’ bank details. That is more than enough information to be able to access your other devices which could also be used to get more data, like insurance information, and other credit card details – which will then lead to access to your banking credentials.

In the Google’s terms of service, it states tat it may store your personal information (which includes, your name, address and billing details) but nowhere in the privacy statement that is state that it passes on your personal information to developers every time you purchase their app. Though it states that Google will share your address and personal information if you purchase a magazine subscription through Google Play, but there is no mention when it comes to apps.

Now that this is out in the open, people have started to comment about this fault – but Google have yet to put out a statement about this. We’ll keep you posted once they do – so stay tuned!
