Let’s face it, Valentine’s Day is nearing and no matter what you say about despising it as a gimmick for companies to earn a little extra, but when you’re single and alone on Valentine’s Day, you can admit that it gets a little depressing. Representing all the ladies who are single this coming holiday, we’re making a check-list of all these things we really need to do on February 14th.

1. Hangout with Single Friends
The last thing you want to do is to be left alone on Valentine’s Day, and even if you can actually enjoy the company of other singletons, that makes it fairly bearable. If you can all get a little buzzed from a little alcohol, even better!

2. Have Dinner with Your Parents
We know, we know! Having dinner with your parents may seem a little ‘sad’, but think about it – Valentine’s Day is all about appreciating the people you love, and we all love our mommies and daddies, right?

3. Eat Lots of Chocolates
Whether it’s a box of crisp Ferrero Rochers, or a huge jar of Nutella you’ve got hiding in the fridge, we cannot help but grant everyone a large stamp of approval that all chocolates in your refrigerator should be consumed on Valentine’s Day. Alternatively, make full use of the Valentine’s Day chocolate discounts in the supermarket. We wish we could wipe out the calorie content, but we’re pretty sure the heart-shaped chocolates are good for your heart!

4. Indulge in Retail Therapy
We believe in the philosophy where you’re supposed to ‘enjoy moderately’, and we’d say the same for retail therapy too since we don’t want to be reason why you’ve got all that credit card debt. But even if it’s just buying something to keep you happy for the night – like a new set of silk pyjamas, a party dress, or a new addition to your stuffed-toy family, something simple will certainly keep your mind out of the Valentine’s rut. Now, go think of something pretty to buy!

5. Watch Movies or TV Shows with No Elements of Romance
Again, we don’t want to be reminded of being single this Valentine’s Day, so if you’re planning to entertain yourself, for the love of God, steer clear of any romantic comedies and any film adapted by a Nicholas Sparks novel! Instead, opt for psychological thrillers, horror films, action movies, even documentaries that will keep your mind focused on the story, and not on your potential future as a spinster.

6. Give Yourself a Card
We know you’re probably thinking “What for”? But wouldn’t you feel a better about yourself if someone ‘anonymously’ delivered you a card and a rose in the office late in the afternoon? It’ll certainly get a few people talking, and it’ll certainly boost your spirits up a little, wouldn’t it?

7. Karaoke
Whether it’s with a group of friends, or alone, Karaoke is the best way to vent your feelings without having to cause any damage, and you can do it with sheer confidence with or without the help of alcohol. We highly recommend singing to a number of 80’s love ballads like Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler and All By Myself by Eric Carmen. Just remember that love ballads are the way to go.

8. Try Postcrossing
There’s a new trend called Postcrossing, where you send and receive postcards from all over the world randomly. It’s a sense of romanticism to this new trend, and all you have to do is create a free account, and you’ll be given an address to mail actual postcards to someone, and you might receive one yourself. Try it here.

So, which of these eight activities will you be doing this Valentine’s Day? If it’s not enough, here’s 10 reasons why it’s awesome to be single this Valentine’s Day.
