Pope Benedict XVI, the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger recently announced that 28th February will be his last day as the Pope due to his age.
“After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainly that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry,” the 85-year-old pope said.
“I order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me”, Pope Benedict XVI continued.
Pope Benedict was elected on April 19, 2005 took over the duties of his mentor, the late Pope John Paul II, whom he served with for more than two decades. (Source)
