We all have the potential to lose our temper once a while, but there are a few of us who are unable to control it. Learning to control your anger is never simple. It takes a lot of self-awareness, control, disciple and not to mention commitment to get it done. Here are some techniques to help you conquer your temper and to react calmly.

 Identify the Anger
Before you start processing your anger to react with something to say, take a step back. Don’t Hulk it, and just silently tell yourself in your mind, “I am feeling angry”. Once you identify your anger, you’ll be more aware of it, thus giving you more control. Own your anger, and don’t let it own you.

Take Time to Cool-off
The trick to managing your anger is to let your feelings out. And while that’s certainly true for the most part, you need to let them out healthily. Repressing your anger is no better than lashing out, so if there’s something you need to get straight with someone, approach the topic calmly as an adult. Do not jump to conclusions, hear their side of their story, and communicate assertively without dominating the conversation.

Release the Anger
Relaxing is a therapeutic way to help break free from your frustrations. So whether it’s yoga, meditation, or a few minutes of deep breaths, take it. When the stress hormones accumulate too much in your body, it impairs the oxygen flow to the brain, which in return, slows down rational thinking. Physical activity helps release the tension, so go out and enjoy some fresh air.

 Think About Your Response
Think before you give a reaction. Analyze and choose them wisely but before you do, think about what you want to achieve from your conversation. This will help you consciously choose the appropriate response without turning into a burning ball of flame.
