Catherine Elizabeth Middleton, or Kate, captured our hearts when during her glamorous wedding ceremony to Prince William at Westminster Abby in April 2011. She became an instant celebrity, and now the world can’t get enough of her, from her glamorous fashion choices to her the details of her everyday life.
In honor of the the Kate’s 31st birthday, we’re sharing ten fun facts about the Duchess of Cambridge.
1. Kate’s parents are self-made millionaires. They made a fortune by opening a party supply store called ‘Party Pieces’.
2. The Telegraph UK reported that Kate was the oldest royal bride. She was 29 at the time of the royal wedding and is older than Prince William by about six months.
3. Prince William and Kate Middleton had somewhat of an on-and-off relationship, but they’ve been seeing each other for over eight years.
4. Kate used to work as an accessories buyer for Jigsaw, a British fashion chain. She also had plans of launching a clothing line for children.
5. Although she’s known as an elegant and feminine icon today, she was quite the opposite before this. Kate was quite a sports-buff, and played tennis, hockey, netball, track and field, and evens swimming. This explains her well-toned body!
6. Kate has created an impact upon British fashion known as the “Kate Middleton effect”. Kate has an impact on the fashion companies companies. When she wears a certain brand’s clothing, the “Kate effect” helps other brands sell items similar to what she wears.
7. There is a mobile app called Kate’s Style List – an app that provides a comprehensive its of the outfits worn by Kate, where can they be purchased.
8. When the Kardashians debuted in the Kardashian Kollection at Dorothy Perkins, Kim Kardashian had mailed samples of the “kollection’ to Kate, which included tight bandage dresses and leopard-print blazers. However, Kate allegedly returned the samples back to Kim and also refused the Kardashian invitation to afternoon tea.
9. It was rumored that when she was in college, Kate had a poster of her future husband, William on her wall. She later revealed that the it was a “Levi’s guy” on her bedroom wall.
10. Kate is very disciplined about her diet and what she eats. A friend of the Duchess said she sticks to eating beans, salads, salmon and barbecues.
