Luxury Swiss watch brand Girard-Perregaux will be the Exclusive Timekeeper and a Founding Supporter of the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles that’s scheduled to open in 2016. Combining the art of watchmaking and the history of filmmaking, Girard-Perregaux will use iconic images from the Academy’s photography in upcoming advertisements and special initiatives to celebrate this unique partnership.
“We understand the importance of preserving the heritage and history of filmmaking which, like watchmaking, requires an immense amount of love, work and dedication.” -Michele Sofisti, CEO of the Sowind Group (Girard-Perregaux and jeanrichard).
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be the first U.S. not-for-profit museum dedicated to the history and ongoing development of motion pictures. The museum will be designed by award-winning architects Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali and is located in the Wilshire May Company building in Los Angeles. Over a hundred thousand films, millions of photographs, and other memorabilia such as original film posters, production drawings, props and movie-making equipment will be on display in the museum’s galleries, theaters, screening rooms and education centers. Behind-the-scenes personal accounts from artists and innovators in the motion picture industry are also expected to be featured, all of which are drawn from the Academy’s own collections and archives.
