Alicia Keys Accused of Copyright Infringement

Uh-oh! Looks like someone is on fire and no… it’s not a good thing.

Grammy Award winning singer, Alicia Keys, is in trouble. At the moment, Keys is facing a copyright infringement suit from songwriter Earl Shuman and it is believed that Keys is being sued over her newest single, “Girl on Fire.”

Wow! Is this for real?

In 1962, Shuman wrote a song called “Hey There Lonely Girl” and it sang by Eddie Holman. Apparently, Shuman claims that Keys took some part of the song and placed it in her latest single.

Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman was the first one to noticed the resemblance between the songs. In the website he wrote, “In the middle of the song, Alicia sings a couplet or so from Eddie Holman’s 1970 classic ‘Hey There Lonely Girl.’ The song was written by Leon Carr and Earl Shuman, who are both gone to rock and rock and roll heaven.”

After noticing the post that Friedman wrote, Shuman then commented saying, “Hi Roger, I am the co-writer of ‘Hey There Lonely Girl’ and I appreciate your recognizing an important part of ‘Lonely Girl’ in Alicia Keys’ new recording. Thanks for your expertise. By the way, though my dear friend Leon Carr is in Rock and Roll Heaven, I’m still here on the ground, writing songs. Earl Shuman.”

The question is, where are the similarities? You be the judge!
