Ah, they year is coming to an end and all we can do is reminisce the hot beauty trends of the year. We saw a couple of interesting trends that were definitely beyond the norm like cotton candy manes, mermaid braids, and even deep dark puckers! Here’s the beauty trends that we loved in 2012, and hope to see them hot in 2013!
Dip-Dye Hair
We all know how horrible it feels when our new dye-job fades off with our roots growing out. Celebrities obviously did not let their natural roots ruin their parade as the growth was given a new lease of life with a slight fadeout in the mid-length of the hair. Some went to the extent of giving it an ombre effect, which is always fun in our books!
Bold Lips
Although bold lips are an age-old makeup staple, we saw a lot of young fashionistas rocking the bold lip in a variety of colors throughout the season. In Spring/Summer, women were trained to try a bright bold shade like fuchsia or tangerine, and something dark and mysterious for Fall like vampy bordeaux lips or the classic pillar box red. The bold lip will forever be the best makeup look, and also for making a statement minus the fuss.
Color-block Makeup
Color-blocking was prominent not only on the runway, but also in makeup. While wearing a bold lip and bold eyes might just be a little risque in makeup 101, it’s still a pretty hot look if you’re getting into the bright vivacious feel. The key to color-block makeup is to highlight one part of the face, while balancing the other part with something slightly muted. Best is to have fun with the lips, and keep the eyes low-key.
Blunt Bangs
Think Rooney Mara blunt. Or Betty Page blunt. Blunt bangs add a certain kitsch and a little mystery to your features, especially when it’s cut just right. These bangs bright out those bright googley eyes. Combine it with one of the trends above, and you’re definitely a star of the show.
Pastel Hair
Blame it on countless hours on Pinterest and Tumblr, with adventurous girls bleaching their hair so white to conquer the most immaculate shade of candy floss pink. While it may actually be a little impractical (and not to mention expensive) to pull-off pastel hair, this is where DIY enthusiasts and love for the arts & crafts come in handy – Using pastel chalk to temporarily give your hair a few creative shades of color!
The Bold Red Lip
Red lips are one classic beauty staple that will never go out of style. We saw the red lip trend in numerous runway shows this fall, especially at Marc by Marc Jacobs. Whether it’s a bright cherry red or deep blood red, the red lip was a totally burning up 2012!
Braids
Braids were all the rage this summer. From the Heidi-esque braid worn over front to look like a headband. The one look that really stole the spotlight was the fishtail braid, or the Herringbone braid which took the fashion world by storm with its delicate sea-inspired style. It gave a chic nymph-like edge to the California beach babe and we can’t simply get enough of this look. Kudos to all the girls who managed to rock these styles!
