What do you think was the trend highlight of the year? We saw a couple unexpected styles from way back when coming back to take the fashion storm, and not forgetting a couple of new trends that’s got all the cool kids standing in line to give it a try. As the year is coming to an end, we’ve decided to list down some of our favorite fashion trends which defined the year 2012 – vivacious and bold!
The Peplum
These fun, feminine and so versatile that it works on just about any shape! It can look a little retro, it can look a little modern, and best of all, it celebrates the waist-to-hip curve, giving you the appearance of a smaller waist.
The Mullet Skirt
Aaah, the mullet skirt. Inspired by the 80’s hairstyle – party in the front, business in the back. Also known as the hi-low skirt, the skirt gives off a fun, flirty and girly vibe, and it works so well on girls with amazing pins. The Mullet Skirt was fairly popular sometime in the 80’s and 90’s, but it seems to be lasting trend as it’s given a fresh new take with the use of lighter fabrics like chiffon, giving it a hint of subtlety without making it sore on the eyes.
Bold Prints
Just when we started to think that loud floral prints belonged to our granny’s era, designers gave us a variety of loud floral prints to enjoy. Whether it’s an avant garde splash of paint on your pants or a contemporary piece of floral art on silk, these were one of the top wardrobe must-haves in your wardrobe. If you’re not sure how to rock it, wear a printed piece balanced with a neutral color. Heels, clean hair, and a simple bold lip, and you’re sartorially ready for anything.
Smoker’s Slippers
Back in the day, they were seen as casual at-home footwear for men, but this masculine staple has made its way to the women’s world of fashion, giving us a versatile piece of footwear that can take us from day to night. The fact that it’s neither too casual or too overdone makes it perfect for wearing with a pair of jeans, or even with a simple LBD. Let’s not forget that they’re absolutely comfortable and we’ve yet to experience any blisters like say..Ballet flats tends to cause!
Crop Tops
Crop tops were hot pieces during the season of summer. Looking like tiny little t-shirts, these pieces were hot in either basic colors, or even loud and vibrant prints. Wear it casual, or wear it like rock goddess, we’re thinking every fashionista owned at least one this year!
Denim Jacket
Ah, the denim jacket. A versatile piece of clothing that adds a bit of flirty flair to a dress, or could even toughen up a casual look. Whether it’s a light wash or a dark one, the denim jacket is one jacket that can never go wrong wherever you go. It especially made a comeback this year when the stars were seen pairing them with the denim-on-denim trends, and some wearing it over a loud-print dress to give it an added edge.
Bowler Hat
Part of the man’s wardrobe staple in the 30’s, Charlie Chaplin-esque bowler hats are now sitting comfortably on heads of women, giving a big of edge to a casual, everyday look. This cool and effortless looks is definitely one of the best looks of 2012, and we’re so excited to see that hats are making a comeback!
