We’re at the point where you start charting new career goals in lieu with your New Year’s resolutions to reflect on the changes you want or need to make. But as New Year’s resolutions are only made since everyone’s doing it, here’a simple guide to help you stick to them and see an incline in your performance at work.
Be Patient
We often chart a comprehensive plan in order to get things done or to achieve our goals, but what happens when it doesn’t go as planned? If you’re extremely compulsive about sticking to a plan, things may not always go well for you. Always leave room in your plans for things to go with the flow. As the saying goes, when a door closes, another window opens. Just because you’ve encountered one obstacle in life, it doesn’t mean everything goes downhill from there on. After all, taking your time to work for something means a bigger bag of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Take Criticism Positively
No one likes having their flaws or mistakes pointed out, and that could result into an overflow of emotions. But when that happens, remember that you’re only told about your weaknesses so you can improve on those skills. Take those career advice and do your tasks better.
Get in the Know
With technology and easy access to the internet, there’s always something new to offer in your field of work. Depending on what it is, start looking for ways to use it. New programs, tips or ideas will usually help you come up with fresh ideas to pitch to your colleagues. The more informed you are, the more you can benefit the company. And if it ends up becoming a specialty of yours, that might just even be a great highlight in your resume.
Ignite the Passion
Having passion for something you do for a living could mean that you’re on the right track of getting your goals achieved. If you’re working a job you love, you’ll generally have the burning passion to do succeed or to be the best at what you do, but if you’re working a job that you dread for the money, it may be time to look around for something that suits your skills and interest more because it’s only going to leave you burnt out from doing anything that you want. You can always look up short courses to take up to help you work on your action plan.
Be Positive
Criticism can knock someone out entirely, especially when you’ve been working your socks off to get achieve specific goals. But remember that achieving career goals isn’t a sprint, but a marathon. It’s going to take a while to reach the finish line, when you do get there no matter how long, it’s still a great feeling. Focus on the bright side and believe in yourself. Know what you are capable of and work on your strengths.
